Boatyard Solutions was entrusted the project management for the design and production of the new Cruiser 40. One of the challenges was to integrate all the technical and constructional innovations efficiently into the ongoing standardised production. This opened the opportunity to create a sporty ship by just tuning a standardised cruising boat. We finished the assignment by supporting the marketing of this yacht that was designed by Farr Yacht Design.
The terms of reference were to turn a normal standardised cruiser into a performance cruiser. On the basis of our experience and in cooperation with Farr Yacht Design a ship was to be conceived that could be raced succesfully – to evolve without changing the basic and technical construction and production of the existing design massively.
We managed in close collaboration with Farr Yacht Design to make as part of the project engineering the possible modifications to conform to international measurement definitions for boat rating. This allowed us to achieve the best possible handicap for the boat, one that is based on appointments and achievement potential almost unmatched in the market.
Nevertheless we met the challenge to integrate our ideas into the production process without impeding the ongoing building of the boats.
In doing so we made it possible with our concepts and our team to get a completely new ship into production within 8 months. After a further three months we had created a version of this boat that had become a show stopper and still is.
We were active from the kick-off and completed the assignment with presenting the finished product on fairs and to the trade media. This project was signed, sealed and delivered for a fixed and fair price. The full cost for design and development therefore remained transparent at all times. These investment expenditures could be included in the cost controlling from day one. Quick, efficient, professional.
Since then the Cruiser 40S garnered successes, internationally as well. It tickles our fancy that “our baby” is for example in Croatia part of a fleet that expanded to 20 boats that are fully booked year-round for the charter company that owns them. In large races it leads there to a exacting and sporty one design sailing race in a large field. Another example would be the Match Center Germany, that hosts with its fleet of Cruiser 40S the internationally top-class Match Race on Lake Constance, a stop of the “Alpari World Match Racing Tour”.
The number of fans of the Cruiser 40 Sport and its successor, the Cruiser 41 Sport, is increasing visibly. We are happy, to have contributed our part to the success of this ship.
